Senior school

Senior Schooling at Wilsonton State High School provides our young people with the experiences and learning opportunities that facilitate their journey to university, vocational training or work. Wilsonton State High School has a reputation for ensuring that all students have the opportunity to complete year 12 with the best qualifications possible and a competitive edge when applying for their post school destinations. The innovations we have in place in our Senior School programs, aim to lay the foundations that engage young people in life-long education and training and to enrich their lives. Our programs strive to respond to the challenges and demands that shape society and to help students develop the knowledge, skills and understandings necessary to meet the changing expectations of society. Perforce providing them with every opportunity to develop as independent and productive citizens of the future.

For Year 10 students, the curriculum is a transitional year or “bridge” between the junior secondary curriculum of Years 7, 8 and 9 and the senior curriculum of Years 11 and 12.  The Year 10 curriculum builds on the foundations of junior secondary but includes a focus on developing the skills and habits necessary for success in Year 11 and 12 .Students in Year 10 are expected to be developing the academic rigor and mastering the prerequisites needed for successful entry to some Year 11 and 12 subjects.  Students in Year 10 study English, Mathematics, Science, History, Health and Physical Education and select four optional subjects from a broad menu.

Students in Year 11 select six subjects that they will generally study for two years; every student must study English and Mathematics and select four other subjects from an extensive range of options. The subjects are organized into distinct groupings that facilitate a tertiary pathway, a vocational pathway or a personalized pathway.  For a number of tertiary oriented subjects, students must meet strict prerequisites in their Year 10 results. Senior students are expected to dedicate their studies to securing the best possible results, including the attainment of a QCE.

Full details of Senior Schooling opportunities at Wilsonton State High School are outlined in the Senior Studies Program.
