Guidance Officers – Catherine Andress and Rick Masters

Guidance Officers provide a wide range of support services to students including but not limited to:

  • Counselling and case management
  • Assessment and individualised student support
  • Recommendations and advice to students, teachers and parents concerning educational, behavioural, career development, mental health and family issues
  • Consultation with student and family around mental health concerns, on-referral to appropriate agencies and continued liaison with agencies around student supports at school
  • Guidance and support in the process of Senior Education and Training (SET) planning, career development including QTAC and University liaison and future pathway options
  • Comprehensive support and referral services that optimise students' access and engagement in educational programs
  • Facilitation of social & emotional and mental health programs​
  • Students can make their own appointment to see the Guidance Officer via the Student Services desk at administration

​​School-Based Youth Health Nurse

Youth health nurses provide a range of support options including but not limited to:

  • Individual health consultations (Assessment, support, health information & referral options)
  • Group health education & programming
  • Promotion and cultivation of health awareness and health support services in the school, for mental, social & emotional, and physical heath.

Industry Placement Officer

Kevin Flett- Kev’s role is everything work experience, apprenticeships, traineeships, and training. Kev meets regularly with employers, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and students. He helps with students setting up their USI numbers, career pathways, getting Resume’s organised and helping skill kids for their upcoming interview.  Kev aims to help the child put their best foot forward when approaching employers and work situations for their long term success.

Youth Support Coordinators

The role is to provide support to students in years 7 to 12 to remain engaged in education and to enhance their opportunities for further education and employment. The work can include individual and group support, case management and referrals to outside community services. ​

Engagement Officer

Janine Smith  Janine’s role is to support kids with very poor attendance (below about 70%).   Janine works across multiple schools and is a great support for our families who are finding their child difficult to get to school. She has a wealth of knowledge of family supports in and around Toowoomba.

School Social Worker

  • The School Social Worker responds to practical, social and emotional problems impacting on young people in education today. We encourage working together with families and parents but respect the right of the young person to determine how and with whom they work.
  • ​The School Social Worker provides a confidential and voluntary service.  There are limits to confidentiality when there is a danger to the young person or to another person.

Community Education Counsellor

Wilsonton State High School's Community Education Counsellor supports Aboriginal and Torris Strait Islander students.​

School Chaplain – Howard savage

To all members of the school community, chaplains aim to provide pastoral care through individual and group support. In particular, chaplains provide school students with:

  • Social & emotional support
  • Spiritual Support
  • Educational support
  • Mentoring
  • Participation in extra-curricular activities
  • Community development
